Impact

Impact

The chasm of space between intention and impact is a moral quandary for the entire fashion industry. In the spirit of radical accountability, we all must look deeply at our processes and take a future-focused approach.

Temily is committed to ethical sourcing and  mindful production. Taking a 360-approach to impact minimization, we work with artisans, makers and producers that share our values and vision. Traceability and transparency are at the heart of this.

We develop and sample in NYC’s fabled Garment District. The characters we’ve met, learned from, brought donuts to, cried (mostly happy tears) with, hugged and built relationships with are the quiet unsung heroes of our clothes.

Our textiles and trims are sourced from Italy, France, Morocco, India, Korea and England. We work with a small group of manufacturing partners in NYC, Italy and China. We visited our chinese maker and sat with the seamstresses to perfect the details. We could call this ‘audited working conditions’ but really we all piled into a car together to find good coffee while discussing how to finesse the gathering in a strap. They showed us silks which are dyed and finished by an ancient technique of burying them in earth.

Our regenerated nylons are sourced from Italy.  Small amounts of recycled polyester stabilize some fabrics. Our metallic silk is free from any polyester (it’s silk with metallized fibres. Steam is not its friend). Our cottons are hand-loomed using a foot-powered, electricity-free method in a zero-waste atelier. We use azo-free dyes.

Lengthening the lifecycle of our garments is at the forefront of our impact planning. We encourage you to reach out to us for the care and repair of temily pieces. Hold onto them, as we are creating a tech-powered path for future resale.

We are aware that none of this is enough. We continue to explore new mills, makers and methods to lessen negative impact through waste / water / energy minimization and increase our positive impact through cultural and social initiatives. Each season is an opportunity to deepen our awareness and apply those learnings.
